A slew of interviews in the Balkans changed her outlook on war and human rights. Katie traveled to Iraqi Kurdistan to uncover the truths about disputed lands and rights of nomadic Kurds. She spent the best summer of her life working on a brown bear conservation project in the back-country of Alaska then headed north to the Arctic to investigate oil drilling. Now in her 30s:
